Since the 5th grade I have actively participated in different English Olympiads and they have played a huge part in my life. Through preparing for the olympiads and actually writing them I have learned to make peace with failure, to continue on the path towards your goals even when it feels like you are only moving backwards and to never underestimate how much your emotions impact your performance. These contests that may seem to the outsider boring or repetitive have inspired me to continue to develop my language and use it as a tool rather than a passive given. Studying for the A-Levels in Letovo now is just me reaping the benefits of the work I have been putting in for the past 5 years. English Olympiads helped me improve my writing, expand my knowledge of linguistics and inspired my interest in US and UK history, politics and literature. All these factors are extremly useful when applied in essay writing, especially in politics and economics.
This year I became the co-founder of the very first M-UN that took place at Letovo. We drew up the main agenda of the conference, led two M-UN preperation classes and recieved over 30 applications. Ultimately, we totalled over 20 delegates and the conference itself spanned 2 days and 9 hours. It was an unforgettable event, both for us and the delegates. It offered an unique way to apply the student's theoretical knowledge in subjects such as politics, economics and history to real world situations. After the first model took place we recieved countless of requests to continue with our work. The second M-UN Letovo is planned for early February.
3 years ago I began a petition to start a Hebrew learning club at Letovo, since it wasn't a language taugh anywhere in our extracurriculars. I thought that Hebrew was not just a language, but a way to connect with my culture and encourage others to do the same. To open a club at our school you need 7 signatures. I totalled over 40, which included not only students, but teacher as well. Now I have been studying Hebrew for some time, and while I am not yet fluent the best thing to come out of the club is not the learning process but the community it has built.
